Director for Israel & Jewish Advocacy

Baltimore Jewish Council is the community relations and advocacy arm of The Associated. At all levels of government, we advocate for social justice and public resources on issues of concern to the Jewish community. By developing policies and guidelines for action, through education and advocacy, BJC provides a forum for member organizations and individuals to respond to issues of interest and concern.

Position Description:

The Director for Israel & Jewish Advocacy will largely focus on a key element of the BJC’s mission: “to promote strong support for Israel and the Jewish people at home and throughout the world through education and action”. The Director for Israel and Jewish Advocacy will integrate BJC’s efforts with other Israel support and advocacy groups in the region, including leading and coordinating programming related to Israel and local Jewish affairs. The right candidate should have some knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs and matters affecting Israel – including a desire to learn more – with a deep attachment to Jewish life in general and Israel in particular. The position also will be involved in helping to identify potential future leaders in the Jewish community and developing their leadership skills.

NOTE: All active full-time, part-time, and temporary staff are required to provide proof of full vaccination (COVID-19) as a condition of employment within The Associated system as of November 15, 2021.

Responsibilities include:

*Promote strong support for Israel and the Jewish people at home and throughout the world through social media
*Integrate BJC’s efforts with other Israel support and advocacy groups in the region, including leading and coordinating on Israel- and Jewish-related matters and programming
*Develop and implement engaging and innovative Israel Advocacy Programs and Strategy
*Organize community education programs on current Israel and Jewish events
*Staffing for Baltimore Israel Coalition
*Develop young Jewish leaders within the Baltimore community
*Such other duties or tasks to assist the organization as the supervisor may deem necessary

Qualifications

*Bachelor’s Degree required
*Experience developing and coordinating a wide array of community programming
*Work and academic experience needs to reflect similar duties as stated above

Skills/Requirements

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
*Understanding of Jewish agenda and relevant experience
*Ability to work in a team setting
*Familiarity with using social media as an engagement tool

Work Location:

Hybrid office/remote work situation.

NOTE: The office location is expected to be in The Associated’s headquarters at 101 Mt. Royal Avenue until 2024, and the BJC office will then return to The Associated’s Park Heights campus at Park Heights Avenue and Northern Parkway.

Other duties:

*Travel when necessary. Must have personal transportation available.
*Occasional work in Annapolis and Washington as needed.
*Some evening/Sunday hours required, per events and meetings.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000
